What I Wore: Muddy Paws and Vintage

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

I've been thinking a lot lately about luck. I've always considered myself a relatively lucky person. I have a great family and amazing friends. I grew up in a supportive and loving environment. I went to good schools, and in turn a great University (even if I didn't manage to graduate... yet) but this past week I have been lucky in a much more frivolousness, but somehow much more real way. I won a couple of competitions, and even though it doesn't actually mean anything, I'm ridiculously excited. It's funny how tiny things can make you so excited.
Anyway, on to the clothes. I picked up this dress in the YMCA charity shop, and I love it. Finding genuine vintage for under £10 is always exciting, and I love so many details on this dress. The colour and pattern are lovely, and the detail on the front is just ridiculously cute. I wore it to take the dogs out for a walk over the weekend and pick up some shopping. We bumped into the most adorable puppy just before taking these photos and she managed to cover me in mud. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to animals though so I didn't really care. I actually kind of like the paw print on my tights.

It's actually getting too cold to take my coat off to take outfit photos, I'd love to try taking them inside but the lighting in our house is just awful. I could invest in some decent lights (Chantilly did a great indoor shoot yesterday) but I'm not sure it would be worth the investment. Until then I will just have to freeze, or maybe you'll just get lots of photos of my coats from now on, like the last photo below. See, I am sensible (sometimes).

  4. What competitions did you win, Alice?! That's so exciting!!

I actually really love your coat from what I can see of it! I totally feel your pain outfit post wise, it is getting too cold and too dark in Canada! I'm hoping I can manage to rearrange my living room this weekend when my boyfriend comes by so that I can take advantage of what natural light there is.

  5. That dress is really pretty!! I love the colours and the pattern, it looks great with your coat too. This a sweet post, people need to focus on what they do have in their life more often, I love seeing people do that

  8. Oooh...what'd you win!? I love winning stuff (who doesn't!?) but it really puts a spring in your step knowing there's some little goodie bag or other winging its way to you for free. I won a Romwe voucher on a blog a couple of months ago and it left me grinning rather manically for a good week or so :) Your dress is absolutely gorgeous..I love the stripes and the Victorian feel. And at £10 what a bargain!!

  9. So many! Just in the past week I have won a bow from Old Red Boots, a bag and bangle as part of the All So Lovely 1 million views competition and free advertising on The Quiet Owl. It's ridiculous.  I also won free advertising this month on Susannah Bean, so I've been doing pretty well.

Thanks for the coat compliment, I absolutely love the colour of it but I'm missing one button so I didn't really want to show off the front. It feel off weeks ago but seeing as I don't have a spare I haven't replaced it yet. I'm going to have to go buy a whole new set and I can't decide what I want. I'm hoping no one I pass on the street will notice, but I figured it would be pretty obvious if I put a photo up. Good luck getting your living room turned into a studio! Our house just isn't designed with space near the windows. It's so frustrating xo

  10. I've actually been quite impressed with a couple of charity shops in Edinburgh recently. They seem to have stepped it up a notch in quality and pricing. I think my best recent discovery has been that Miss Selfridge in the city centre has started selling some Armstrong's stock, I popped in last week and it was all on sale (most of it less than a tenner) so it is actually cheaper to buy it there than in Armstrongs. Crazy. If you are through in Edinburgh you should definitely pop in, you have to wade through a lot of polyester, but it is worth it.

So far in the past week I have won a bow from Old Red Boots, a bag and bangle from Oh So Lovely and free ad space on The Quiet Owl. I also won free ad space from Susannah Bean at the start of the month too. I'm not convinced the ads are actually bring anyone here, but it is quite exciting to see when I'm reading xo
