Adventures In SummerhallSaturday, October 06, 2012
Yuck, it's been a rough couple of days round here. I managed to give myself food poisoning by eating some questionable chicken. It's my own fault, really, but I've also been feeling quite sorry for myself. I'm planning on spending the rest of today curled up under a blanket with some ginger tea and a Margaret Atwood book I got in a charity shop earlier this week.
I've had these photos hiding away on my laptop for a couple of weeks now, they're from Edinburgh's Doors Open Day. I only had time to visit one building, but I think I made the right choice. These are some internal shots of the old School of Veterinary Studies at Summerhall, more commonly known round here as the Dick Vet. It's a beautiful building that is now used for exhibitions and as studios and workshops as well as housing a micro brewery.
Many of the original features remain, such as the lecture theatre below, but other bits seem to just be a hodge podge of exhibitions, empty spaces and deconstructed rooms. We spent over two hours wandering around and still didn't manage to see everything. Hopefully I'll get the chance to see the rest of it soon, and have an excuse to pop into the lovely little cafe they have again soon.
I've also got some outside shots that I'll share with you guys next week, they are such a contrast to these ones it felt wrong to put them in together, besides, I don't want to bog you down with photos! I hope you are all having great weekends.
