About Me: March 2011

I can't believe it is time for another About Me post already, I swear time is moving faster and faster the older I get! March has just completely disappeared. In my attempt to learn more about Photoshop I decided to whip up this little image to go with the section. It's not the most original idea, but I enjoyed making it :)

This time I decided to re-do a note from my Facebook, where you answer questions using song titles from an artist. Originally I did it with Beatles songs, but I decided to switch it up a little and I'm using one of my new favourite bands in the entire world 100 Monkeys (Jackson Rathbone makes me swoon).

Painting Pictures In The Sky

I always forget how close to the water Edinburgh is - I spent all my time in the city centre so I don't think of it but there are so many beaches and rivers nearby I'm probably never more than a couple of miles away from one.   We did an impromptu trip down to Musselburgh earlier in the week with the dogs, I've not been in ages and it was a good excuse to get rid of all our extra bread by feeding it to the birds. The dogs were a bit unsure about the geese and swans at first but they got over it pretty quickly.

I love feeding birds, there is just something so cathartic about it.

I'm thinking about taking part in the Day Zero Project where you list 101 things you want to do in the next 1001 days. It seems like such a nice idea, and without the morbidity of a 'To Do Before I Die' list. Has anyone taken part in anything like this? Any advice? I'm thinking of coming up with my list and then starting on April 6th (a week on Wednesday) which would mean I would be ending on the 1st of January 2014. I'd love someone to do it with, so if you are interested in it leave me a comment :)

Permanent Marker

I've had the most fantastic two days, truly incredible. One of my close friends is down in Edinburgh for the next week and it has been lovely wandering through charity shops and sitting in the meadows with her. We have a day of looking at pretty things on Saturday so hopefully I will have some nice pictures to show you guys.

Until then, here are some random snaps from the past week. I went out for a wander round the city centre with the old boy, and we ended up playing with the toys in Jenners. I used to adore Sylvanian Families when I was little, so I couldn't resist taking a snap of this massive one!

Sylvanian Families at Jenners

Isn't it just the most adorable thing you have ever seen?

Coffee at Cafe Andaluz

The 'Taylor Swift' Heart

Of course, in typical Edinburgh style, it was freezing, so we ended up hiding out in Cafe Andaluz on George Street. The coffee is fantastic, and I love the decorations, I'll have to grab some photos of it next time I am in there. I was having a bad face day so I decided to hide myself behind the 'Taylor Swift' heart.

The past week or so has been busy with not doing much, my least favourite type of busy. I've been stuck inside, in front of my laptop due to work backing up, and horrendous weather. Luckily I have the rest of today off, and numerous friends around so I should get to finally have some fun!

Until then, here are some tea related photos from my midnight snack last night.

I love curling up in my dad's old jumpers. They don't even smell of him anymore (one of the main appeals when I was very young and first stole them) but know he wore them once is still incredibly soothing.

I just re-found this mug, it was given to me as a gift when I was a child and I love it. Well, really I just love personalized stuff, but this is extra cute! Blue was, and still is, one of my favourite colours.

Tea Party

Words cannot express how fun this weekend has been! All you can eat Chinese food, the most ridiculous volume of tea, watching Alice in Wonderland (the original Disney version) and a massive clothes swap were just some of the highlights of spending time with Nikki and Hessie.
Bertie insisted on sleeping on my bed while I packed, I couldn't bear to move him though - I love it when his tongue sticks out when he sleeps.
The most beautiful spinning cake display!
Nikki has the most adorable tea set, it makes me want to go out and kick start my collection!

I've got a mountain of new clothes to style, along with a couple of items I picked up in Primark so hopefully I will have some interesting outfit posts coming up soon. How was your weekend?

A Tin Hat & Very Little Else

On Wednesday a friend and I took a walk up to see one of my favourite views of the city. He had never been up there before and might be moving away very soon so I couldn't let him leave without seeing it. We had lots of fun scrambling about on the hills, exploring the quarry and then finally getting a fantastic view over the north of the city.

Since I knew I was going to be doing a lot of walking I wanted an outfit that was practical, but pretty, maybe something to do with the fact my friend is also an ex-boyfriend! Ah well, I know I'm a little bit fickle, but it made for some fun. I took inspiration from Breanne over at La Flattery, and her awesome leggings ensemble earlier in the week.

I love how she mixed floral leggings with military boots, and the whole grey palette looks wonderful. I decided to try something similar, but a bit more summery to match the beautiful weather we've been having lately.I don't own any flowery leggings so I had to improvise by putting thick patterned tights over a really thin pair of black leggings, but you get the same effect. I also added a similarly coloured cardigan to keep me warm in the wind.

Black Mini Dress: Primark
Grey T-shirt: Primark
Boots: Barretts

Unfortunately none of the photos I took from the top of the hill came out, but I do have one of the view out of the quarry that isn't too bad - learning how to take photographs in bright light is definitely something I need to learn.

Yet another day of gorgeous sunshine - I cannot wait for summer!

I don't know if anyone remembers but I brought up zip maintenance when I first got these boots about 3 weeks ago, and my worst nightmare has come true. The zip on the left boot is totally dead :( I think I am just going to have to sew it shut and hope for the best - I don't want to risk taking it out and not being able to sew it back into place - especially with my poor skills! Anyway, I am very glad they only cost me £12, otherwise I think I would be pretty pissed.

Hope you are all having a good weekend!

Goose Bumps

My post titles seem to have a theme at the moment, ie my inability to wear suitable clothes when I leave the house. I was absolutely freezing while I was in town today so I popped into a couple of charity shops in the hope of finding a jumper. Naturally, I got distracted and picking up something unnecessary...

Despite the fact I am Scottish I don't actually own anything tartan at the moment, so I couldn't resist buying this. It was only £2.50 and is vintage. I think I am going to take it through to Dundee with me this weekend when I am visiting friends. I'm not quite sure how to style it though, conservative with a blouse, or rock it up with a t-shirt and boots. Any suggestions?

I also managed to get the worlds thinnest cardigan at the PDSA charity shop. Then again, it is from Top Shop and a size 8 that fits me so I can't complain.

Blue Toes and Purple Legs

I am being completely spoilt with day trips at the moment. Really, I don't know what I am going to do when I have to go back to my real life, and only maybe getting away for a long walk with the dogs on a Sunday. Yesterday was another day of fun, out to East Lothian this time. We decided that the only place to go in the sun was the beach so a group of us jumped in the car and made our way to Gullane. Having David down with his car  is so useful!

I wanted an outfit that incorporated layers and then immediately left them all in the car so my outfit post is pretty basic, but I completely loved the puffy skirt, and the blouse is adorable - I'll do my best to get some close-ups asap.

I think I overestimated the sun, because I was completely freezing the entire time I was out, but it was worth it to feel the sun on my legs and arms. And I was even able to be in the sun without burning!

Unfortunately David went home last night so no more impromptu trips :( then again, I think I have been away from my real life long enough, stuff is starting to pile up.
